Volunteer Opportunities

Complete the Volunteer Form and Make your Band a Success!

Marching Band Season: - We kick off the year with one of our busiest activities - Marching Band. Please check the marching band schedule at www.westfieldband.org. under events calendar link.

  • Kids are outside much of the day. Volunteers are who are available during the day can bring the kids popsicles after a few hours outside, fill up large water jugs for water breaks, etc.
  • The Bulldog Bistro event is the dinner meal provided to directors and marchers on those “12-hour” days, so kids don't try to rush home and get back to school in 1 hour. Volunteers help to set up for the provided meal, supervise portions, and clean up. (usually just 3 times during band camp - see schedule on the “Dinner Reservation Form” on the web site). During home games, the marching band gets the 3rd quarter “off” in order to mingle and get something to eat.
  • Home Game Concessions allows the marching band to exit the stadium via the back door to the parking lot, where parents have tables set up with Pizza, Chick-Fil-A, soda, water so students can eat without having to wait in line. Proceeds come back to the band, and parents set this up right AFTER watching the half time performance.

  • The Pit Crew involves able parents who help to bring the `pit' equipment onto the football field for the half time show.
  • During the marching band season, we buddy students and welcome the 8th grade band students from Stone and Rachel Carson for Middle School Night.
  • Senior Recognition involves coordinating parents and their seniors in alphabetical order, giving them a flower and getting them ready for the announcement of seniors on the field.
  • The day of the Homecoming game, we need help coordinating the marching band to march with the homecoming court from Northrop Grumman to Westfield.
  • Chaperones are needed to accompany students to away games (easy) and to competitions - duties include supervising students, helping to carry items, assisting with uniforms, etc. (Dress Warm!)
  • Concert Band Needs:  Representatives from each perspective band are needed to assist the coordinator with any issues/activities for that band, assist with various concert needs, general coordination, supervision, senior recognition. You will work closely with Mr. Panoff and the coordinator, Becky Anderson.
  • Assistance may be needed in producing or printing programs, assisting with coordination of Festival and Solo & Ensemble (ie - tracking forms, money, supervising event).
  • If it is our turn to perform at senior graduation, chaperones are needed for this event, typically early morning, coordinating food for performers @ the PatriotCenter, handing out water and general supervision.
  • Chaperones are also needed to assist with auditions for the following year's bands - supervising, tracking students, etc.
  • Uniform assistance is needed during band camp to help size and assign uniforms for students, possibly hand out uniforms for home games, assist with placing plumes into hats before home performances, sizing and assigning concert uniforms, and providing any forgotten items before performances.
  • We celebrate with 2 band banquets during the year. Assistance is needed to help coordinate/set up/supervise, etc for the Marching Band Banquet at the completion of marching band season, and the end of the year Band Awards Banquet. Mr. Panoff and Becky Anderson will also need an organized person to assist with the coordination/ordering/tracking of band awards for those evenings.
  • 4 times during the year, the music department puts out a newsletter…volunteers are needed to help with coordination of this event - labels, set up, typing…
  • Winter guard enjoys competitions and practices during the Winter Sports season. Assistance is needed with uniforms, chaperones, equipment, etc.

Fundraising Volunteer Opportunities

  • Many volunteers are needed with the various fundraising events, especially Tag Day. On this day, many parent drivers are needed to drive and chaperone students, mostly in groups of 4, to pre-determined mapped out Westfield neighborhoods to supervise them while pairs of 2 solicit donations for the band program. This is our biggest and most profitable fundraising event.
  • 50/50 involves selling raffle tickets during the first half of home football games to support the band students. Great way to keep warm!
  • Cookie dough is one of our first fund raisers, occurs during marching band and again in February. Assistance is needed tallying orders and on cookie dough delivery day (coordinating orders for pick-up). Citrus sales are in November and duties resemble those for Cookie Dough.
  • Scrip is a year long program that involves people ordering Giant or SFW `scrip' - basically gift certificates for the grocery store. Volunteers offer to function as the “coordinator” for their neighborhood, allowing band parents to drop their scrip orders to them. Then this person is responsible for delivery to Main Scrip Coordinator, and picking it up from them the following week for distribution. Easy job if you are typically around and do not travel.

Just call me - We will call you…if your just not sure, or signed up for some things but did not want to over commit but you still are willing, fill this out! I always love this group!
