Volunteer Opportunities
Complete the Volunteer Form and Make your Band a Success!
Marching Band Season: We kick off the year with one of our busiest activities - Marching Band. Please check the marching band schedule under events calendar link.
Band camp volunteers who are available during the day perform a variety of tasks, logistics and supervision.
- The Bulldog Bistro event is the meal provided to directors on those “12-hour” days. During home games, the marching band gets the 3rd quarter “off” to mingle and get something to eat. Home Game Concessions allows the marching band to exit the stadium via the back door to the parking lot, where parents have tables set up with Pizza, Chick-Fil-A, soda, water so students can eat without having to wait in line. Proceeds come back to the band, and parents set this up right AFTER watching the half time performance.
- The Pit Crew involves able parents who help to bring the `pit' equipment onto the football field for the half time show.
- During the marching band season, we buddy students and welcome the 8th grade band students from Stone for Middle School Night.
- Senior Recognition involves coordinating parents and their seniors in alphabetical order, giving them a flower and getting them ready for the announcement of seniors on the field. The day of the Homecoming game, we need help coordinating the marching band to march with the homecoming court at the parade.
- Chaperones are needed to accompany students to games and to competitions - duties include supervising students, helping to carry items, assisting with uniforms, etc. Parent "uniform" (Black polo shirt and khaki slacks) highly encouraged!
Concert Band Needs:
- Volunteers from each band are needed to assist the coordinator with any issues/activities for that band, assist with uniforms and other concert needs, general coordination, supervision, senior recognition. You will work closely with Mr. Panoff and the coordinator, Carol Rice. Some concerts may include concessions or receptions.
- Assistance is needed in producing, copying, and assembling programs. This March, Westfield is hosting Festival! We will need a LARGE number of volunteers to showcase our school and booster organization and to ensure a well organized and executed event. It is our turn to perform at senior graduation, chaperones are needed for this event, typically early morning, coordinating food for performers @ the Patriot Center, handing out water and general supervision.
Fundraising/Other:
- Many volunteers are needed with the various fundraising events, especially Tag Day. On this day, many parent drivers are needed to drive and chaperone students, mostly in groups of 4, to pre-determined mapped out Westfield neighborhoods to supervise them while pairs of students solicit donations for the band program. This is our biggest and most profitable fundraising event.
- 50/50 involves selling raffle tickets during the first half of home football games to support the band students. Great way to keep warm!
- We have a variety of sales throughout the year (Cookie dough, Citrus, Entertainment Books) that require volunteers to tally orders, unload trucks, sort merchandise, and fill and check orders. We still need a few Fundraiser Coordinators to plan and manage individual fundraisers - bring your ideas!
- Scrip is a year long program that involves people ordering gift cards from various retail stores. Volunteers offer to function as the “coordinator” for their neighborhood, allowing band parents to drop their scrip orders to them. Then this person is responsible for delivery to Main Scrip Coordinator, and picking it up from them the following week for distribution. Easy job if you are typically around and do not travel.
- Uniform assistance is needed during band camp and fall concert season to help size and assign uniforms for students, hand out and collect uniforms, assist with placing plumes into hats before home performances, sizing and assigning concert uniforms, and providing any forgotten items before performances. We celebrate with 2 band banquets during the year.
- Assistance is needed to help coordinate/set up/supervise, etc for the Marching Band Banquet at the completion of marching band season, and the end of the year Band Awards Banquet. Mr. Panoff and Becky Anderson will also need an organized person to assist with the coordination/ordering/tracking of band awards for those evenings.
Just call us - We will call you…if you're just not sure, or signed up for some things but did not want to over commit but you still are willing, fill this out!
