Band Director's Invitation
January 12, 2007
Dear Parents and students:
As strange as it may seem, high school is upon you. By this time next year, you
will be in the middle of your freshman year. Soon you will be making some very
important decisions about your courses for next year that will shape your life
and experience at Westfield High School. One of the best decisions you can make
is to join the Westfield High School Band.
The Westfield Band program is a nationally recognized program that offers
students of all ability levels an opportunity to learn, live, and love music.
The Westfield Band comprises eight performance groups including the Wind
Symphony, the Symphonic Band, the Concert Band,
Jazz I, Jazz II, the
Percussion Ensemble, the
Colorguard, and Marching Bulldogs. Each of these groups has gained local, state,
and national recognition in the short time Westfield has been open.
Colleges today are looking for well rounded students involved in their school
and community as well disciplined and works as a team. This is what the
Westfield Band has to offer. Band at Westfield is unlike anything you have ever
done in your life. The Westfield band is so different than middle school band we
always say…..You owe it to yourself to try it for one year. One year. We think
you will be amazed. We have prepared this presentation for you that should
answer most questions you may have about band at Westfield. If after reviewing
these materials, you still have questions, please call me. Most of the students
that I have taught for 22 years have always thanked me for getting them to try
band in high school for one year.
Being in band prepared me for the rest of my life. It can do the same for you.
Sincerely,
Steve Panoff
