Greetings WHS Band Seniors!Congratulations on reaching the end of your High School career! In support of your continued education, the Pay It Forward Scholarship is looking for motivated seniors that have actively demonstrated a willingness to contribute back to their community. This scholarship encourages reflection on how your vast skillsets can aid others in their journey towards their goals. Scholarship applications are due by the end of day on May 19, 2023. Band Seniors,
The Westfield High School Band Booster Organization offers two potential scholarships. The details are on the application and it is due by 5pm Friday, May 19th, 2023 (EXTENDED!!!). The Laura McBride scholarship applications, essays and letters of recommendation should be emailed as instructed in the application to [email protected]. They will be awarded at the senior awards ceremony. The application is available at whs_band_scholarship_2022-2023_application.docx  Wednesday 3/22 begins our next fundraiser event at Lazy Dog restaurant in Chantilly by Wegmans. If you are looking for a reason NOT to cook, here's your opportunity to grab some good food and support a great cause. Not only will Lazy Dog donate 15% of all orders to the band, it runs FOR AN ENTIRE WEEK! So put away those pots and pans for a night (or two or three :-)) and support the band! The fundraiser runs March 22 - 28 and is only good at the Lazy Dog Restaurant at 14333 Newbrook Dr in Chantilly. If you dine in you can use code 39WHSB to share with your server. Flyers will also be available at the restaurant. Use the same code when ordering online. Online orders must be done through Lazy Dog’s website. It cannot be used through DoorDash or Uber Eats. On February 28th and March 1st the Stone Middle School and Westfield High School Band programs will be performing. Concerts start at 7pm in the Westfield High School Auditorium. Doors open at 630pm. Concert program is attached.
Westfield High School Concert Program - Winter 2022:
Indoor drumline (IDL) is almost here! Indoor drumline you ask? How can one march indoors and what the heck is it anyway? IDL is, according to Wikipedia, a "type of marching ensemble consisting of the battery and front ensemble instruments. It differs itself from a traditional percussion ensemble by not only on musical performance, but on theatrics and marching." If you’ve never seen an IDL Performance, here is Westfield in action last year at the AIA Championship in Hampton. For those of you interested in joining IDL this year, "tryouts" are this week as follows:
Tuesday 15th (Battery/Drums only) 6 - 9 pm Thursday 17th (Front Ensemble only) 6:30 – 9 pm Tuesday 22nd (Both groups) 6 – 9 pm It's a load of fun and you don’t have to be a percussionist to join! Email Merold Saffa for more info. Winter guard is basically color guard but in the winter without the band. We spin flags, rifles, sabres, and other equipment in a three to four minute show. Winter guard goes from December to late March/early April. Throughout the season, we build technique, develop performance skills, and learn choreography for the show. Practices are in the evenings on Mondays, Wednesdays, and some Fridays. Competitions take place on certain Saturdays in February and March, with finals in early April. Winter guard is a very fun experience, and everyone who's done it has enjoyed it and learned many new skills.
